The first cartoon produced with Mickey mouse. “Plane Crazy” was actually the first Mickey Mouse cartoon produced, but it was a silent cartoon and it failed to get a distributor when it was shown on May 15, 1928 to a test audience. “Steamboat Willie” was released later in 1928 and was a big success. “Plane Crazy” was then re-released with sound on March 17, 1929, after 3 other Mickey Mouse cartoons had already been released. Though many people argue over which cartoon is the actual first Mickey Mouse cartoon, The Walt Disney Company does consider “Steamboat Willie” to be the debut of Mickey Mouse, since “Plane Crazy” was not picked-up and released to the general public until March 17, 1929 after sound was added.
